Nick's rant today reminded me of this story from the Decameron
Now that I think about it, there's an even better tale about a young scholar in love with a disinterested woman. After she had tricked him into waiting outside on a frigid night for her to let him in, he schemed a plot to trap her naked upon a tower all day long under the sun, and when she begged him to relent and promised to give herself to him, he refused and went on a long diatribe instead. It was less outright funny but was very satisfying to read. The Decameron is good, but it's so sexually profligate, especially with cuckoldry stories, that it's hard to get through at times. Some of the tales make it enough to reward the effort, though.
