Speaking of EPs and Dawn, a related project...

I thought it was good; it compares favorably to the black metal that I have heard before. It has no major flaws, except that the cymbals are often intrusive and annoying. You can hear that especially on the upload that I listened to, which seems higher quality. I'm also talking about every song at once because they each seem pretty similar to me.

Also this won't make sense until you know what it is riffing on

This one's even better. One thing I like about this release is that each song is better than the last instead of starting with the strongest material first; the EP even culminates in a great closer. The choral background elements in the latter two tracks weren't a bad idea, even if they were executed a little questionably. Those two, though, are definitely the best, and have great energy. The release description on the Bandcamp page calls the riffing "ambient-like", which I would only agree with for the first track, which I would also say sounds slightly dim (I did like the riffing, though). Also from the Bandcamp page:

Most of black metal is ambient-like, achieving its extreme with Ildjarn Forest Poetry, Burzum Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, Immortal Pure Holocaust, and Darkthrone Transylvanian Hunger. Interesting they pulled that out for this release, which makes more sense given some of the history before it:

This is sort of the "grindcore" (Repulsion, Terrorizer) wing of black metal! Also of course relevant is:
