oh yeah, i was going to mention that the music in pulse tries too hard to tell you when something Spooky! is happening and rapes the atmosphere a little bit, which i don't remember happening in cure. the extended periods of silence in both were great but in pulse it's like they didn't even realize that it's supposed to be SILENCE sometimes.
towards the end of the film i don't think it would seem particularly silly if it wasn't for the
, which i might think was purposefully dumb if it wasn't for that i've seem some other kiyoshi kurosawa films which makes it obvious that he gradually lost all tact and subtlety and became insanely formulaic.
a couple of them i didn't know were his films before watching, and i was thinking while watching them "man they're trying really hard to copy kurosawa" and when i looked up the director to see who the b-grade kurosawa was, it was actually just him
