I like how the album evokes a dark atmosphere without resorting to a cliched "harshness", and actually creates said atmosphere with good production and interesting melodies. The "jazz sounds" are almost IDM like at times. Very clear Varg influence in the way the second song was produced I think? I've hardly listened to any black metal but this evokes similar feelings in me as Dunkelheit/Jesus' Tod. I liked the first half of the third song, the build up into the "drop" following the same general theme. The second half had some jazzy wind instrument meandering that I didn't really like, but the guitar riffs were great. I also liked the distortion when it starts to get heavy again. Final "song", basically half the album. Starts out with "typical" black metal blasting. The vocals are really really good. I don't care if they're basically indiscernible, they reach into throat singing territory at times. Again the production on the blast drum is perfect. It doesn't take over the whole thing like a lot of black metal does. It starts to get more atmospheric. There isn't a single section on this that's boring. Every section flows well into the other and is interesting to listen to. Great album. 4 stars.
