tim rogers does not live in japan anymore. he lives in new york city. he actually wrote a controversial article for kotaku about why he stopped liking japan: https://kotaku.com/japan-its-not-funny-anymore-5484581 he comes across to me as a very insecure person -- in all of his videos, even before he made Action Button into a youtube channel -- he frequently reminds his audience that: - he has made video games - he worked for [X big company] - he met and/or interviewed [X famous game dev] - he is a musician and played in a lot of bands - his methodology of reviewing is extremely rigorous - he did a lot of work to make the video - he has played a lot of related video games - he first played [X video game] a really long time ago (before you) - he is currently writing a bunch of novels it wasn't until i started watching all of his videos that i heard him admit (i forget where) that he hates himself. i don't find this relatable or admirable, but it is kind of endearing to me because of how transparent it is. hbomberguy and shaun are narcissists, but they've completely deluded themselves to the point where i cannot relate to them as people at all. i feel like tim rogers is still just some guy trying to make something out of his life, and in the absence of anything actually meaningful, grasps at straws and does the classic soylennial thing where you pretend little tiny insignificant and mundane things are actually the most meaningful things in the world, because if not that, then what? i watched As I Was Moving Ahead Occasionally I Saw Brief Glimpses of Beauty when i was 14 years old and thought it was the most profound thing in the world. i'm not sure if he's lying, but tim rogers claims to have a photographic memory, and in some of his more recent videos, he recounts specific conversations from his childhood, quoting things people said to him 30 years ago. i think this is fascinating whether or not he's deluding himself, lying/embellishing, or being truthful. i tried to watch the geller jew and he came across to me as painfully insincere, pretentious, and sappy. i'm not sure why Action Button didn't feel that way to me. maybe it's because tim rogers seems genuinely passionate about the games he reviews, or maybe it's because his videos are so sprawling and bloated that i don't think he's trying to affect the pretense of anything -- he just is that way. tim rogers claims to have written over a dozen books and shown them to no one. i can relate to that. i don't know how i feel about the fact that he goes around telling people that all the time. i had to go into the admin panel and increase the default maximum post length in order to make this post. how apropos :pipe:
