the way japanese people are constantly saying to do things in a ちゃんと manner is very importantthis is translated as "properly" but i feel like it's more deeply understood than it would be if you told someone to do something "properly" in english without explaining further. it doesn't really just mean that... i thought about this after watching that k-on clip where ui says that santa-san will deliver presents "properly." but a more accurate translation would be something like "as he should"it's about everything being in its right place and the natural order not being upset. so even if you technically complete a task or technically do your work as assigned, if you don't do it as it should be, the balance of the universe will be upset.
