had to drive 3.5 hours and listened to lolita audiobook the entire time. it's very uhh... severe... it's not like kodomo no jikan at all. must be why it's still somewhat socially acceptable to read. the protagonist is basically a deranged serial killer and the girl is totally unaware of what's going on in his head and makes no advances towards him, as opposed to being like the animu archetype where the girl is sexually provocative/aggressive towards the adult male. liek she's just hanging out while he's plotting ways of raping her or killing her mom. so it's kinda like a dostoyevsky book in that way (apparently nabokov hated him but im a pleb and have no other references)
