anime is "better" in the sense that most Western media is completely insufferable and offensive to my aesthetic sensibilities, whereas even mediocre anime is, at the very least, aesthetically pleasing. but i have far less of an expectation of "good anime" to be satisfying and cohesive than i do of "good movies" (made in America, Europe, or Russia).it's a tragedy how much untapped potential Haruhi has as a series... because the author had (and still has) no interest in developing and resolving its plot.
