{"id":7935,"date":"2025-01-21T23:06:34","date_gmt":"2025-01-22T05:06:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mindseyemag.com\/tv\/?p=7935"},"modified":"2025-01-21T23:07:20","modified_gmt":"2025-01-22T05:07:20","slug":"hiroshi-yoshimura-surround","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mindseyemag.com\/tv\/hiroshi-yoshimura-surround\/","title":{"rendered":"Hiroshi Yoshimura &#8211; Surround"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If Surround can be listened to as music that\u2019s as close to air itself, allowing us to enter each listener\u2019s sound scenery, or as something that exists within a new perspective, expanding the middle ground between sound and music, and transforming it into a comfortable space, it would be much appreciated.<br>\u2014 Hiroshi Yoshimura<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Originally released as an album in January 1986, Surround was recorded by Yoshimura as a commission from home builder Misawa Homes, intended to function as an \u201camenity\u201d designed to enhance the company\u2019s newly built living spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his original notes for the album, Yoshimura recommends that Surround be placed in the same family of sounds \u201cas the vibration of footsteps, the hum of an air conditioner, or the clanging of a spoon inside a coffee cup.\u201d And, as he suggests, \u201cwith the addition of city noise from outside the window,\u201d you may hear Surround in a completely new way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A pioneer in the field of environmental music, Yoshimura\u2019s previous works included Music For Nine Post Cards (1982), originally produced to be played back inside a museum space, and designing sound environments for public spaces and subway systems.
