i read the entire Bible about a year ago but it was mostly from the NIV translation so i still need to read Maccabes and some other stuff now

not really interested in any version which isnt extremely clear modern english.

The Douay Rheims used nowadays is a revision by Richard Challoner of the original into a version much more nearly resembling the King James. It's not a verbatim translation of the Vulgate anymore. Also, the Vetus Latina preceded the Vulgate, and some of its books were revised and included (or just included as is) in the Vulgate, too.
