$lave is kicked, mochi is up :coffee:
darn i listened to this one 3 times and never posted :/. ill still play along.

This is up there as one of the best albums this thread has had to offer. There's little room for the listener to get bored here. its best to listen with eyes closed and focused so you can follow along on the journey that lambkin is taking you on. i would say it was a meditative experience. im not sure if i would enjoy it as well had i listened passively while driving or even while walking, though there are a few tracks (drivers) that can be torn from the project and taken in separately. i checked out the artist's 2023 work aphorisms and would say i liked this a lot better. aphorisms felt like it way overstayed its welcome imo

favorites: divers, the currency of dreams, baby & fox

least favorites: the brendan drill, jungle blending, jumpskins

check out the breadwinner (collab with jason lescalleet)
it's more subtle than salmon run; delicate and immersive. aphorisms is a bit flanderized especially with the jumpscares

I like how the album evokes a dark atmosphere without resorting to a cliched "harshness", and actually creates said atmosphere with good production and interesting melodies. The "jazz sounds" are almost IDM like at times. Very clear Varg influence in the way the second song was produced I think? I've hardly listened to any black metal but this evokes similar feelings in me as Dunkelheit/Jesus' Tod.

I liked the first half of the third song, the build up into the "drop" following the same general theme. The second half had some jazzy wind instrument meandering that I didn't really like, but the guitar riffs were great. I also liked the distortion when it starts to get heavy again.

Final "song", basically half the album. Starts out with "typical" black metal blasting. The vocals are really really good. I don't care if they're basically indiscernible, they reach into throat singing territory at times. Again the production on the blast drum is perfect. It doesn't take over the whole thing like a lot of black metal does. It starts to get more atmospheric. There isn't a single section on this that's boring. Every section flows well into the other and is interesting to listen to.

Great album. 4 stars.
