i think it's cyurious that the first song sounded notably japanese. if i had to guess why it sounds like that i would guess that the scale she used is the same as shi er lu, which a lot of traditional japanese music also uses. the reason that would be shi er lu is because it's actually the same scale that traditional scottish folk music (basically all scottish bagpipe music) uses, and they're playing that on irish bagpipes. so it's like they got the wrong country. but that's just the first thing that came to mind, it's not like i have perfect pitch. so this entire paragraph may be retarded rambling

i hoped the whole thing was going to have a japanese tint like that since i don't really like celtic folk and especially irish folk, but like a lot of other stuff it just sounds too much like all of the non-specific Europe Music when a show/film/game has some setting in some medieval fantasy. especially in japan because it's always faux-irish stuff they use for some reason. it's like the intent was a showreel for this kind of thing more than a normal album. i'm also far too used to only ever really hearing this music irl from seeing very corny borderline larping situations to associate listening to it with anything else

however the last song sounds like it was meant to be an 80s radio ballad

all in all i'm not sure i'm able to enjoy the sound of bagpipes for any prolonged period of time and the harp was mostly a background aspect of it, but even then i think the harp felt more new age than traditional folk

I enjoyed the album. Despite only two instruments playing on the album, the virtuosity of the playing made the listening experience compelling throughout. Having listened three times, the album always feels much shorter than 42-minute run time. The music was very light and refreshing, and a type of music I would love to hear live. All the Japanese elements slipped past me at first but were unmistakable on the second listen. In particular, I appreciated the rendition of the Japanese folk song "Moon Over Ruined Castle" (a practice exercise included in Suzuki books) at the beginning of the fifth track.

surprisingly captivating, I particularly enjoyed the second half and especially the closing track. Very whimsical and merry, I can close my eyes and imagine that im a gnome walking around small village in a mystical forest. I felt moments in the beginning were repetitive, not boring just made my interest fade a bit. I had a pleasant experience with this album and could see myself going back to it when im in the mood for something light.

Here’s a lil 90s alt rock. Pollard is great here and all of the 28 songs are solid. It’s a lot of fun and great music to drive around to during the summer.
