horrible replies. simply stating an unpopular or contrarian opinion without any appearance of justification or implied connection to personal virtue, as almost all replies are doing, cannot be called "pretentious." typically, impersonal statements of "i think [thing]" are pretentious if the opinion appears to be constructed for the purpose of deceiving others into believing something subjectively positive (and false) about the person making the statement.
i think what's rubbing me the wrong way is that pretense, by its nature, must be deceptive. an authentic, sincerely-held belief cannot be pretentious. and you cannot ask someone to perform pretentiousness without it being a performance... and therefore not actually pretentious...
