crazy how nick has 450k followers on X now. when it comes to followers/sub on social media the curve is exponential and now he'll climb to 1M faster than he went from 77 to 450.

horrible replies. simply stating an unpopular or contrarian opinion without any appearance of justification or implied connection to personal virtue, as almost all replies are doing, cannot be called "pretentious." typically, impersonal statements of "i think [thing]" are pretentious if the opinion appears to be constructed for the purpose of deceiving others into believing something subjectively positive (and false) about the person making the statement.
i think what's rubbing me the wrong way is that pretense, by its nature, must be deceptive. an authentic, sincerely-held belief cannot be pretentious. and you cannot ask someone to perform pretentiousness without it being a performance... and therefore not actually pretentious...

structure of a pretentious opinion: "i believe [attention-grabbing thing] because [bunch of bullshit i made up or copied from someone else to sound smart and make people like me]"
