Ichiko Aoba is a classically trained guitarist who has been releasing music since she was 19, when in 2010 the world was met with her first album, Razor Maiden. In 2013 she put on a live performance that may as well have been performed in her parlor room for how intimate this sounds. The hold she has on the audience is something I would’ve loved to behold. They’re completely hushed whenever she sings, and can she sing. Aoba’s voice can fly as high as rainy clouds, but rain always has to come down; she broods with solemnity like nobody else. Her guitar work is nothing short of fantastic, and a perfect complement to her voice which together makes up some of absolutely beautiful folk.
