I've been thinking for a while about the idea that music tastes solidify strongest around age 13 ever since I started realizing it was true for me. I think it clicked for me in a big way when I first heard that King Crimson's Discipline (my favorite album in 7th grade) influenced math rock.

for me it was more like 15~16 because that's when i discovered way more stuff very rapidly but yeah. if i look at my last.fm from a decade ago it's still pretty obviously me

i find that classical music is more enjoyable when you are able to play it aloud from speakers and fill the room with it.

If I'm sitting down when I'm listening to the Enigma Variations I'll inevitably get up and stand perfectly still. There's not another piece of music that's like that for me (I have a good CD player but no good speakers otherwise, so it might just be that).
