@$lave the dealbreaker for me on everything you've posted has been the text
it just needs something more... for me. whether that is a shadow, double outline, gradient, texturing... i'm not sure.
the kill la kill one is the better of the latest 3 you posted imo. i don't get the salo reference, not my scene.

i agree but im not sure what. even the burzum one looks off despite in being the font from the burzum website. i could add blood splatter to the kill la kill banner ig?

i think in general the text contrasts too strongly with the rest of the image such that it looks out of place
if you look at promise-ring's work, the text is either a sort of object within the universe of the image or it's very small and blended into the background -- except for the times when it isn't like that, which is when it isn't as good.
