i've technically seen LOTR but i was too young to critically assess or really understand anything so this is basically where i'm at
my impulse is to be against anything that depicts the "hero's journey" or simplistic good vs evil morality
but the "world building"/mythology aspect of LOTR is probably good

the subway station scene at the beginning of the movie where all the exits are bizarrely closed off is one of the most kino scenes in the history of cinema. perfect distillation of what it feels like to have a bad dream. "something is wrong" mixed with "i'm not sure what's happening"
