fine -_- i'll do a 1-2 sentence review with an -/5 rating based on goodreads' rating system
but if it's really terrible (like no longer human) then it's gonna be short. if i did a review of no longer human i would say "this book is totally worthless i hate it" and that would be it

in freshman year of high school we got to pick any book we wanted to read and then discuss it with the teacher 1 on 1 (no written report) and i picked no longer human. i remember not knowing what to talk about

my biggest problem with the book was that he still had the ability to rizz women

the tartar steppe had one of the best scenes i've ever read. its been stuck in my brain ever since i read it. i should reread it. :stady:
the part where they're traveling up the mountain while it's snowing and one of the younger men stays out in the cold and freezes to death while everyone watches

The Wizard of Oz (Book 1)

3/5 - I liked it

it was a nice read— by that I mean that it was enjoyable, but that it didn't have the prose quality of a great children's book, like Alice in Wonderland. It reminded me of epic poetry in the way that the hero will experience a compounding of ridiculous events that he readily accepts, which was fun. I think I'll read the next two books, though Baum never planned on making further Oz books, so, if they aren't as enjoyable as the first, I won't be continuing the series.

when i visualize what im reading it becomes a stage play with multiple rotating portions of the stage, like the foreground (where the characters walk), a sort of middle-ground (what characters stand in front of but are able to interact with), and the background. it was a lot of fun to imagine the cast of the wizard of oz doing this stage play performance in my head, as well as the rotating set.

Yeah I had this sort of visualization reading Faust and it made it way more enjoyable
For a moment I can pretend I'm a 20th century man visiting the theater

The Man Who Was Thursday

2/5 - It was okay

I didn't care much for it, but I think a lot of that is from having not read it in one sitting. If anyone else reads it, you should take an afternoon to do so. My remaining dislike of it was how it didn't go where I thought it would. I guess I put too much anticipation into it. That kind of fizzled out and I continued reading the latter half just to finish the book.
Chesterton's prose was just "meh" as well.
