the age 14 is commonly selected by mangaka and anime/LN writers because it reflects the earliest point at which puberty has finished. in reality, there are many 14-year-old girls who have not finished puberty and thus still look like children, but there are also many that look identical to 18-year-olds. asuka pretty obviously falls in the latter category (i'm excluding those who age so quickly that they're already starting to hit the wall at 18). essentially, youth is maximized without entering into paraphilic childhood-fetishism. no one considers asuka to be a "loli"
it's pretty common for kick streamers to ask what appears to be an adult woman their age and receive the answer "i'm 14"
this is confusing and surprising to people because it's much rarer for males to finish puberty that early, so the streamers will go "WHAAAAAAAT NOOOOOO WAYYYYYY YOU GOTTA BE LYING! CHAT, WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!"
