not a fan of the spinning (not sure if that's the meta or if this guy's just a werido) but changing it into a movement-based game with a (possibly?) high skill ceiling makes it more interesting to me than what it was before

I used to play this game every day during lockdown/online school until 3 or 4 AM. I put in about 250 hours to unlock 313 out of 320 of the car models. Then I discovered that PS1 save files could be copied to PS2 memory cards but not played from them, and I accidentally deleted both. R4 is a great refinement of the arcade racing formula and a clear pinnacle of the Ridge Racer series. A lot of people are very impressed by the game's soundtrack. I used to be infatuated with it, but not so much anymore. It is certainly an important of its distinct and developed style, though.
