lego starwars (one of my earliest memories was playing this on pc with my brother, he played with arrow keys I used wasda for coop), paper mario TTYD, super mario sunshine, pokemon black / white, minecraft, blops 2, skyrim, dark souls trilogy, xenoblade chronicles trilogy. My childhood ordered by videogames. I currently cannot play video games except incrmental idle games as I feel extreme nostalgia and depression overtake my mind. I live only to work now.

this forum seems quite based :tip: (not because of what the OPs of these threads are saying, but because of the replies)

i wonder why the biggest rpg forum is chud lvl. i would expect it to be troon-infested. or maybe troons are too stupid and brain-damaged to read a lot of text? hmm

downloaded and played about 15 mins of planescape torment just to see wat it feels like and to compare it to fallout 2's intro.
definitely a much better tutorial stage. actually explains the controls. only requires you to fight 1 enemy instead of 1000 roaches like fallout 2.

what i don't understand is why classic western RPGs went with this isometric idea. it's like the least immersive/role-playing-like perspective possible other than pure text. you're as zoomed out from first-person as possible, with "you" being a tiny little ant on the screen. and unlike JRPGs, there is no emotive/talking portrait of you that pops up during dialogue or sits at the side of the screen.

Rename this thread to video game general? Maybe it would get more traffic and it kinda turned into that anyways.

just played planescape torment for 4 hours straight. probably hooked me more than disco elysium did, even though it's way harsher on the eyes and lacks voice acting for 95% of lines. also the protagonist doesn't really have a personality, whereas the disco elysium protagonist does. floating soyjak skull guy is a decent sidekick (comedic relief), but kim kitsuragi is better. it's actually a kind of inverse dynamic where in disco elysium the protagonist is the funny man and the sidekick is the straight man. i actually think that works better because the sidekick is from the video game and doesn't have amnesia so it makes more sense for him to be srs while you're goofy... wait a sec ok the amnesia thing was totally ripped off from planescape

i'm almost reconsidering my anti-combat stance because when there's always the threat of an NPC getting butthurt and attacking you, thus forcing you into painful and tedious combat, i feel more judicious with my choices.

for example when talking to the "damsel in distress," i was immediately skeptical and correctly guessed that she was a scammer / trying to get me killed.

then there was some random suicidal faggot who wanted me to kill him in the middle of a bar, and i was apprehensive about choking him to death because i didn't want everyone else in the bar to start attacking me.

i didn't use a single item in disco elysium until it basically forced me to (reading the police notes thing). in planescape torment, i'm messing with items and checking each one constantly. it feels much more like an actual RPG as opposed to a sort of isometric visual novel.

so far:
planescape: torment > disco elysium > fallout 2 (played it for 15 mins)

there were 2 rival gang factions and one was the "good" gang that tries to be morally upstanding or something, and then there's the "bad" gang which you know is bad because the leader is named "rotten william"

both leaders ask you to kill the other one, but rotten william offers way more money -- and the leader of the "good" gang is a woman. liek you're supposed to believe a female is bossing around all of these thug niggers.

so i killed the woman. if the game has an internal karma thing like fallout and i am now considered evil for this, that would be kinda gay.
